“Winter is a season of recovery and preparation” - Paul Theroux.  The duality of darkness and light is most potent in Winter. The coldest darkest moment of winter is the exact moment when new life begins to grow.  Taking inspiration from the permanent collection at the Victoria Gallery, artist Angel Greenham has drawn from paintings depicting women in sumptuous jet-black dresses, the Wedgewood vessels in carbon black, and the glossy onyx of the Jackfield ceramics. The intention is to encourage the viewer to slow down and observe light and shadow where interpretation is not prescribed but left open.  An original audio piece has been composed by sound artist Gavriel Rubin to accompany the sculpture. During my time in Tokyo I've been recording the sounds of the city. Tokyo is a city of duality. It is simultaneously traditional and hyper-modern, extremely noisy and dead quiet, respectful and abrasive. This piece uses the concept of duality as a compositional influence. SAYER is Gavriel and D3NZ

‘They Will Tell You to Not Look at the Clouds’ is a collaborative piece between Gavriel and David Wein. The music is shaped by the shared interpretation of the accompanying photograph, which explores the disparities between conflicting mental states and humanity’s progress. The visual also acts as the score for the music, reading from left to right. Shot on the Pentax sp1000 using Portra 400 film.
